The Mumbai Police have arrested a cab driver of an app-based firm, Shadabh Mohammad Ibrahim Shaikh, for allegedly molesting a woman on Monday.
According to the police, Shaikh called out to the woman while she was on her way to pick up her son from school on April 10.
As per the complaint filed by the woman, Shaikh told her he was looking for a babysitter for his child and asked her to sit in his cab.
The police said the woman had not hailed the cab using the company’s mobile phone app and she was picked up by Shaikh while she was walking on the road.
As soon as the woman entered the cab, Shaikh asked her to be his friend and molested her, the complaint said.
Finding that the windows of the car had been rolled up, the woman opened the door of the cab and tried
to jump out even while the vehicle was moving.
Shaikh, however, halted the cab before she could jump out and allowed her to get off, police said.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that Shaikh had fled with her mobile phone.
The phone was later sold by Shaikh’s wife for Rs 500 who needed the money for their son’s treatment.
The cab driver was traced via the vendor who purchased the phone, police said.
