CBI seeks cancellation of Maran''s anticipatory bail

The Central Bureau of Investigation filed a petition in the Madras High Court on Thursday seeking cancellation of the interim anticipatory bail granted to former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran in the alleged illegal telephone exchange case.
On June 30, the high court had granted anticipatory bail for six weeks on the condition that Maran appeared before CBI on July 1 and cooperated with the agency in the investigation in the case.
In its petition, CBI claimed 48-year-old Maran, the prime suspect in the in the case, refused to cooperate with the investigation.
The petition is likely to come up for hearing on Monday.
The agency questioned Maran for 22 hours over three days from July 1 at its headquarters in New Delhi.
The CBI had booked Maran; then BSNL Chief General Manager (CGM) K Bramhanathan; and then Chennai Telephones MP Veluswami CGM for conspiring to illegally install 300 high-speed telephone lines at the leader’s house to facilitate the transmission of brother Kalanithi Maran's SUN TV channel when he was Telecom Minister from 2004-07 and causing a huge financial loss to the exchequer. — PTI
