The 5th annual convocation for engineering students of Chandigarh University, Gharuan, was organised here today.

Ashok Ramachandran, CEO, Schindler, India and South-Asia, was the chief guest. “Ups and downs are a part of life, but the individual who never gives up and tries to learn from his/her mistakes comes out as a winner and achiever in life,” he said.

Giving a message to the parents, Ashok Ramachandran said: “Success cannot be achieved every time and parents need to understand this so that they don’t put unnecessary pressure on kids for achieving every goal. The world is facing several challenges such as poverty and inequality in terms of economic status and protecting moral values and the youth have to contribute towards eliminating these social problems cutting beyond the caste, religion and color circles,” he added.

Sharing the success mantra with graduates of the university, the CEO said: “Striving for hard work, creative thinking and following ethics and values in your life are three important ingredients which can bring success in professional and personal arena.”

More than 1,657 students — seven PhD students, 140 postgraduate students and 1,517 graduate students — of engineering batch 2014-18 were awarded degrees during the convocation ceremony.

More than 20 university toppers were awarded gold medals for their outstanding performance in academics in their respective streams. “Universities should not only restrict themselves as degree-awarding agencies but their real contribution towards society is preparing professionals who have rich ethical and human values and can contribute towards the betterment of society,” said Vice-Chancellor RS Bawa.
