Notices sent to a number of hotels, restaurants, clubs and eateries for obtaining or renewing fire NOC notwithstanding, the Panchkula Municipal Corporation has allowed these establishments to organise New Year functions.

After the Mumbai fire incident, the MC has issued notices to 10 such establishments.

These include Hotel Shiraaz in Sector 5, Hotel Ramgarh Fort at Morni Resorts, Morni Hills, Vikrant Hotel in Sector 12-A, Sagar Ratna in Sector 9, Yo China in Sector 9, Cafe Coffee Day in Sector 9, Nand Sweets in Sector 14, Delhi Sons Restaurants in Sector 5 and Hotel Neel Kamal in Sector 3.

MC Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal said many of these hotels and clubs had either not obtained or renewed their NOC from the fire department of the civic body. After checking the records, the fire wing of the MC issued notices to these hotels and clubs. A letter in this regard was sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Panchkula, he said.

However, he clarified that the MC would not spoil the New Year celebrations at these hotels but would take action as per the MC laws, like sealing of building, after the celebrations got over.

The MC Commissioner added that as the notices were issued after a fire mishap at Mumbai and the MC did not want to take any chances, fire engines would be stationed outside the hotel lanes. These will be deployed from 8 pm on December 31 till 2 am on January 1.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Manbir Singh said since the fire department was with the MC, they would not stop any party at clubs and hotels. The police would provide assistance to the MC fire wing as and when required, he added.

MC goof-up

Yesterday, the MC had prepared a list of 20 hotels and clubs that did not have fire NOC. But today, it was found that in 10 cases, either the NOC had already been obtained or renewed from the fire department. A senior MC official said the renewal slips were issued but not entered in the MC records. After obtaining these slips from these hotels, they were now amending the records, the official added.

Fire engines deployed in markets

In the wake of a fire mishap at a Mumbai pub, the MC’s fire department deployed fire engines at the markets in Sector 20, Sector 9, Sector 3 and Mansa Devi Complex. Most hotels and restaurants in Panchkula are situated in these areas only. Besides, four fire engines will remain on call at the Sector 5 fire station.
