Panchkula, April 19

Tension gripped Mollewali village, falling under the Charniya panchayat in the Pinjore sub-division, as two groups  of residents pelted stones at each other over the laying of rainwater drainage pipe in the village.

More than a dozen persons of one of the groups were injured in the incident. A resident — Harnek Singh — was reportedly critical and has been referred to the PGI. Other injured include Bimla, Ramkaran and Shrawan Singh. They have been admitted to the Sector 6 Civil Hospital.

Sources said the fight over the laying of drainage pipes started around 7 am. The police reached the spot and rushed the injured to the hospital. However, members of the other group tried to stop the police and the Pinjore police station SHO had to resort to firing in the air.

Kamaldeep Goyal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, inspected the sites where stone-pelting incidents took place. He also interacted with the families who houses were damaged in the clash.

Kalka SDM Manita Malik also interacted with representatives of both groups. Daman Singh, BDPO, was present.

Sources said some villagers were divided over the laying of pipes for the drainage of rainwater from the main street.

Village Panch Rattan Singh said the dispute between the two groups had been going on for the past 50 years. The panchayat had made four attempts to resolve the issue, but in vain.

Around 19 BSF jawans, 150 policemen and members of the Rapid Action Group have been deployed. More than three dozen persons have been booked. — TNS
