Ropar, October 7
A car allegedly hit a motorcyclist leading to his death on the spot on the Chamkaur Sahib-Morinda road near here yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Gurnam Singh, a resident of Chamkaur Sahib.
Gurdev Singh, elder brother of the deceased, said Gurnam was going to Lutheri village on his motorcycle when the car hit him from the rear near Kamal palace leading to his death.
The police said Sanawarjit Singh, a resident of Raipur village, had been arrested. A case had been registered in this regard.
In another incident, a speeding car hit four people who went for a morning walk at the Ropar bypass yesterday. Injured persons, Rajvir Singh, his wife Sonia, their neighbours Simranjit Singh and Harleen Kaur, were taken to a hospital. Sonia, who was referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, died on the way.
The police have arrested the car driver, Puneet Kumar, a resident of Paonta Sahib.
