About 25 doctors and specialists attended a CME on sleep-related problems at Ojas Hospital, Panchkula, today.
Dr Sunny Virdi, consultant-pulmonary, said sleep-related problems such as excessive snoring led to severe breathing issues during sleep. These were called obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and central sleep apnoea (CSA). These were the diseases that occurred in accordance with other disorders such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, kidney disease, stroke, he said. He said further in OSA and CSA, there was decreased delivery of air to the deeper parts of lungs leading onto decreased oxygen in body resulting in direct stress to heart and brain. — TNS
