The NCC Inter-Directorate Shooting Championship began here on Tuesday with 272 cadets from 17 directorates across the country participating in the 11-day event.
During the championship, the participants will compete in three events each in boys’ and girls’ categories, said the organisers Chandigarh NCC Group, adding that half the participating cadets were girls.
The event was inaugurated by the Additional Director General, Punjab, Haryana Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh NCC Directorate, Maj Gen RS Mann.
NCC conducts the national-level competition every year for selecting the NCC team for various championships organised by National Rifle Association of India. Shooting forms an important part of NCC training activities and cadets have been performing well in the national and international competitions for the past many years, the organisers said.
Recently, air wing cadet Kritika from Chandigarh had successfully qualified the first selection trial for India squad in the 50m rifle prone junior women category.
