The police have arrested three Delhi-based persons who duped a number of persons, mainly senior citizens, to the tune of several lakhs of rupees through online frauds in the name of LIC Insurance and Bharti AXA Life Insurance.
The suspects have been identified as Anand Mishra, Karan and Pramod, all residents of Delhi. According to Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal, the suspects were running an organised gang involved in online fraud.
“The miscreants mainly targeted elderly persons. They used to contact their preys on phone and allure them on the pretext of helping them in getting LIC premium payments. For that, they used to demand some money from the victims and defraud them,” said SSP Chahal.
According to the police, the miscreants had committed fraud with more than 100 persons and the police got more than 40 complaints in this regard from Mohali only.
“The suspects had committed a fraud of Rs 24 lakh with a 68-year-old resident. Besides, they had also cheated another local elderly person and took Rs 20 lakh from the victim fraudulently. After committing fraud, the miscreants stopped answering the phones of the victims,” said the police.
According to the SSP, the miscreants were running a call centre in Delhi.
“Around 180 employees have been working at their call centre. Apart from that, they were also running a company in Mumbai on whose name they used to cheat people,” said SSP Chahal.
The gang was active in several states, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.
The police claimed that there were more members in the gang. “We hope to arrest the rest of the members soon,” said SSP Chahal.
A case under Sections 406, 420 and 120B of the IPC has been registered in this regard at the Phase 11 police station here.

The gang was active in several states, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.
Over 40 complaints
The miscreants had committed fraud with more than 100 persons and the police got more than 40 complaints in this regard from Mohali only.
