3 dogs get home in stray adoption drive

The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) celebrated World Animal Day at Sector 38 here today.

Mandeep Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner, UT, who is also the president of the SPCA was present. World Animal Day is observed worldwide every year. Several activities regarding the welfare of animals started a week ago, in collaboration with the Human Awareness Camp at the GCCBA, Sector 50, and culminated at the SPCA animal shelter.

Dr Kanwarjit Singh, Joint Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, and four veterinary officers of the Animal Husbandry Department talked about changing people’s perspective towards animals. Students of Dev Samaj College, Sector 36, DAV Public School, Sector 8, and the staff of the SPCA and the Department of Animal Husbandry participated in the awareness drive.

An adoption campaign for stray and abandoned dogs was organised, wherein three dogs were adopted.

To sensitise the livestock owners of Milk Colony, Dhanas, a campaign was carried out by the Field Inspector, SPCA, with the help of volunteers. Five violators were challaned under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
