Four persons had robbed a Toyota Crysta from its driver at gunpoint on the road separating Sectors 45 and 33 on December 17. The MUV driver, Jagdeep Singh, was returning to the taxi stand in Sector 46 after dropping a passenger when the incident took place at around 2 am. As soon as Jagdeep took the road, silver Tata Indica was crashed into the MUV in the rear with an intention to stop it. As Jagdeep Singh alighted from his vehicle to see what had happened, four persons, including one armed with a pistol, got off the car, threatened him and escaped with the MUV.

Sources said Shelly and Motta were associates of Jodha and Jagseer Singh, alias Seera, a notorious car thief. Seera and Jodha were also involved in the carjacking.

Police sources said the accused initially used the Toyota Crysta but parked it in Jagraon after they came to know that the UT crime branch was after their gang and searching for the MUV.

Manjit Singh, who had purchased the MUV a few days before it was robbed, said the accused had done some changes in the vehicle.

Key was buried

The robbers had buried the key of the MUV where the vehicle was parked. If some associate of the robbers wanted to use the vehicle, he would dig out the key.
