300 students pledge to make Punjab drug-free

Punjabi University observed Youth Empowerment Day to mark the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev here today.
As many as 300 students took a pledge against drug abuse under the Buddy Project to make Punjab free from drugs. Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Prof BS Ghuman, administered the oath to all student buddies and teachers present on the occasion. He also flagged off a rally on the campus to create awareness against drug abuse.
Nodal officer, Drug Abuse Awareness and Prevention Cell, Punjabi University, Dr Mamta Sharma, said such programmes would continue on the campus in order to involve students in raising awareness of drug menace.
Prof Ghuman said, “Shaheed Bhagat Singh is role model for youth. He inspires us to live a meaningful life and contribute in the formation of a healthy society.”
After the rally, two nukkad nataks (steet plays) were also staged on the varsity campus. The plays not only focused on drug addiction and impending dangers, but also encouraged youngsters to help others to say no to drugs.
