PANCHKULA: Over 35 people fell sick after drinking contaminated water in Sector 19 here today.

Over 35 people fell sick after drinking contaminated water in Sector 19 here today.

They were rushed to the Sector 19 dispensary. Three of them were referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, Chandigarh. They were complaining of stomachache, loose motion and vomiting.

Local residents alleged that the pipelines of sewer and water supply were damaged during the digging work carried out by a mobile company to install a tower near a shrine in the sector. It resulted in the outbreak of diseases.

Kamlesh Lohia, Mamta, Ritu, Vibha Devi, Suresh Kumar, Vinod and others were discharged after primary treatment at the dispensary.

Lata, one of the residents, alleged that a private company had started digging work to lay cables in the area. She said the company didn’t fill the dug-up portion.  She alleged that neither the local councillor nor the MLA cared to visit them.  — TNS
