700 students compete in abacus

Over 700 students from North India participated in the 13th Annual National-Level Abacus Competition at GGDSD College, Sector 32, on Sunday. 

Jasmit Kaur emerged the overall champion and won the rolling cup along with Rs 10,000. The second prize winner was Shweta Sharma and third prize went to Rinku Kackria. School children from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh competed for the annual competition organised by the Soroban (Abacus) Education for Mental Arithmetic System (SEMAS).  Vivek Kackria, Regional Director (North), SEMAS, said, "The abacus method of mental arithmetic is an effective technique for faster calculation and development of right brain of children. I am pleased to see participation by a large number of students."  Mayor Asha Kumari Jaswal was the chief guest and  Dr BC Josan, principal, DAV College, Sector 10, was the guest of honour. TNS
