A newborn boy, who was abandoned by his mother at the Civil Hospital, Ambala City, on Sunday, died today.
As per information, on June 22, Sakina came to the hospital when she was seven months pregnant, accompanied by mother-in-law Sarfan.
Sakina gave birth to a boy. After the delivery, the mother left the child in the hospital.
Sources said the women used to live at a brick kiln in Kurali village.
A case was registered against her under Section 317 of the IPC and 75 of JJ Act at the Baldev Nagar police station.
Vandana Sharma, chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, said, “The weight of the newborn was just around 710 gm. The police have been trying to trace the women. The body has been kept in the mortuary of the hospital.”
Mother dies after
giving birth to twins
In another incident, a 35-year-old woman, who had given birth to twins at the Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment, on June 21, died today.
The deceased has been identified as Uma Rani, a resident of Bihta village. It was a preterm delivery and the twins (a boy and a girl) were shift to the NICU ward of the hospital.
Due to weakness and lack of blood, the mother was also undergoing treatment. The woman was said to be in a live-in relationship with a man.
However, no one has turned up to accept the newborns as the parents of the woman had already died while her sisters have denied to take the children.
After getting information, members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and District Child Protection Officer reached the hospital.
CWC chairperson Vandana Sharma said, “The deceased was said to be in a live-in relationship with a person. She was brought to the hospital by her neighbours. The twins are stable but they are still in the NICU ward. They will be shifted to the centre of the State Adoption Agency so that they could be adopted.”
The Saha police are investigating the matter. Investigating officer Ranjeet Kumar said, “The woman, in her documents at the hospital, had mentioned Anil Kumar, a resident of Paonta Sahib, as husband’s name. But there is no information about him. She got married twice, once in 2003 and then in 2006, but came back to live with her mother. In March, her mother also died and she was not in link with any other family member, including her two married sisters. Efforts are being made to trace the father of the newborn babies. The exact cause of the death will be clear when the post-mortem report is out. The deceased had informed the neighbours that there is a fibroid tumour of 4-kg in her stomach, to hide about her pregnancy.”
