Aditya, Manas make winning starts

Chandigarh, March 12

Haryana’s Aditya Rathi quelled the challenge from Tamil Nadu’s Nithish LN Balaji before dismissing state-mate Krishang Raghuvanshi in straight sets to win both of his Group 5 matches on the opening day of the Road to Wimbledon (RTW) Junior Masters at the at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, here on Tuesday.

Rathi after losing the opening set 3-6, came back strongly to win the next two sets 6-4 6-3 to beat Balaji, while he muscled Raghuvanshi 6-1 6-1 in the second match.  

Manas Manoj Dhamne of Maharashtra overcame Haryana’s Vansh Nandal 6-0 6-7(6) 6-3 and then registered a 6-4 7-5 win over Balaji in his second match.

Dhananjay Athreya of Tamil Nadu blanked Punjab’s Navya Verma 6-0 6-0 in a Group A league match while Ayushmaan Athreya of Madhya Pradesh registered a 6-3 6-1 win over Wyatt Rowan Obrien of West Bengal. 

In Group B, Haryana’s Yuvan Nandal started off his campaign with a 7-5 6-3 win against Cahir Sameer Warik of Maharashtra while Manipur’s Bushan Haobam drubbed Delhi’s Omaansh Choudhary Sharma 6-1 6-1.

In the opening league match of Group C, Haryana’s Agriya Yadav downed Anadhra Pradesh’s Mohith Sai Charan Reddy Pasam 6-1 6-2. 

Karnataka’s Skandha Prasanna Rao overcame a resilient Jasmeet Duhan of Haryana in the second match of the group. Rao won the opening set 6-4, but Duhan fought his way back into the match with 6-1 win in the second set. In the decider, Rao blanked Duhan 6-0 and sealed the match.
