Unseeded Aditya Balsekar stunned top seed Sarabjot Singh in straight sets in the final qualifying round of the boys’ U-18 category on the second day of CLTA-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the Sector 10 Complex on Sunday.
Balsekar played brilliantly to log a 6-4 6-0 win over the top seed. Earlier, in the first round of qualifying, Balsekar defeated Raghav Singh 9-3.
Second seed Jitin Kumar Chetry also moved into the main draw by defeating Ankit Jaiswal 6-2 6-1, while fourth seed Akash Deb registered a 7-5 6-2 win over Faizur Rahman.
Third seed Parveen Kumar was pushed to three sets by Atul Chhillar before he came through. Kumar won the first set 6-1. However, Chhillar bounced back to win the next 6-2. In the final set, Kumar controlled his game and registered a 6-4 victory to move into the next round.
Fifth seed Sukhpreet Singh Jhoje registered a hard-earned victory over unseeded Sarabjeet Singh Saini. Jhoje won the first 7-5, but Saini took the next 6-3.
Jhoje refocused himself and took the decider 6-3. Sixth seed Sourabh Sehrawat confirmed his main draw berth by registering a 6-3 6-4 win over Rohan Mittal, while unranked Gurustat Singh Makkar outplayed seventh seed Ayush Sharma 6-2 7-5. In the last qualifying match, Suvrat Mall defeated Dhananjay Singh 6-4 6-4.
