Zirakpur, January 15
After losing all hope of help from the authorities concerned, residents of Garden Homes in Nagla have decided to get the road leading to their locality levelled on their own.
Notably, about 50 families residing in the society have been asking the Zirakpur municipal council to undertake the re-carpeting of the road for over a year but the authorities concerned did not act.
Whenever it rains, it becomes next to impossible to commute on the road. Vehicles get stuck in the middle of the road due to the accumulation of water.
Here residents alleged that the road was dug up to lay sewage pipes around a year and a half ago. Despite the completion of the work a long time ago, the re-carpeting of the road was yet to kick off.
Residents further rued that earlier the MC authorities had claimed that the re-carpeting work would start after the monsoon last year but it may now be pushed to March when mercury soars.
“I have been witnessing this poor condition of roads for the past seven years. Though people have raised the issue several times, there is no relief for us,” said Sandeep Shandal, a resident of Garden Homes.
“We were helpless. On many occasion, we were told that the re-carpeting work would start soon but nothing was done because of the reasons best known to the MC,” said Dipesh, another resident. MC officials said they would soon begin levelling and re-carpeting the road. They also assured to get the street lights repaired.
