37 arrested for drinking in public

Chandigarh: The police have arrested 37 persons for consuming liquor at public places in the city. The police said the accused were booked under Sections 68-1(B) of the Punjab Police Act and 510 of the IPC. They were later released on bail. TNS

2 missing minor girls traced

Chandigarh: The police have traced two minor girls who had gone missing from Khuda Ali Sher village on Thursday. In a complaint to the police, a resident of the village stated that his 12-year-old daughter and her 11-year-old friend went missing from near their house on Thursday. On his complaint, a case under Section 363 of the IPC was registered at the Sector 11 police station. Later, the police traced the missing girls and handed them over to their parents. TNS

Zirakpur man held with heroin

Chandigarh: A special team of the police on Saturday apprehended a resident of Baltana with 7 grams of heroin here. The police said a case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act was registered against Sonu Goyal, a resident of Gobind Vihar, Baltana, Zirakpur, at the Sector 34 police station. The police said several cases under the NDPS Act had already been registered against Sonu. TNS

12 more stolen bikes recovered

Ambala: The district police on Saturday claimed to have recovered 12 more stolen motorcycles from two persons, who were arrested on Friday with a stolen motorcycle. Disclosing this, Ambala Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohit Handa said following their arrest with a motorcycle, which they had stolen from Mullana on April 10, Gurdeep, alias Deepa, and Rameshwar, alias Ishwar, of Ambala were put under sustained interrogation following which 12 more stolen motorcycles stolen from Mullana, Shehzadpur, Paraw, Saha, Kurukshetra, Shahbad and Yamunanagar were recovered from them. Both accused were produced before a local court, which sent them to three-day police custody. Handa said more cases of vehicle thefts were likely to be solved with the arrest of the duo. TNS

Chandigarh: A European Soccer and Scouting Summer Camp will be organised at Punjab University from June 13 to 16. UEFA Licensed Coach Steve Embleton will supervise the camp.
