Ajay stuns Krishan, enters semis

Fifth seed Ajay Singh stunned top seed Krishan Hooda to ease into the boys’ U-16 semifinals in the ongoing St. Stephen’s CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) Tennis Tournament here today.

Ajay was consistent in his performance and did not seem to be under any pressure as he humbled Hooda 9-5 to stay in contention for the title.  

Second seed Bhupender Dahiya overcame Sarabjot Singh in a closely contested match. Sarabjot was leading 3-0 before Dahiya fought back to close the match 9-8(2).

Third seed Uddayvir Singh beat qualifier Swamin Sharma 9-2, while unseeded Abhay Mohan showed the exit door to sixth seed Manveer Singh as he won 9-3 to book a place in the last-four stage of the championship. 

Ameek, Simran move ahead 

In the girls’ U-16 quarterfinals, top seed Ameek Kiran Batth tamed qualifier Aditi Singh 9-1, while second seeded Simran Pritam blanked Vaibhavi Saxena 9-0. 

Konika Singh Dhull drubbed Chandni Srinivasan 9-0 in another quarterfinal clash at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10.

Meanwhile, third seeded Navya Verma registered a 9-4 win over fifth seeded Rijul Bhatia in the boys’ U-12 quarterfinals. 

Another local trainee Sharey Vir upset second seed Keshav Goel 9-7, while top seed Rushil Khosla overwhelmed seventh seed Svarmanyu Singh 9-5. Harikesh Iyer beat Arjun Jitendra Abhayankar 9-6.   

Top seed Vaibhavi Saxena lived up to her billing as she got the better of Vanya Arora (9-2) in the girls’ U-12 quarterfinals. 

Second seed Suryanshi Tanwar confirmed her berth in the semifinals after she defeated Maitreyi Phogat 9-4. Third seed Anya Jacob beat fifth seeded Chandni Srinivasan 9-5, while Durganshi stayed alive in the competition with a 9-5 win over Agrima Gandhi 9-5.

Krishan-Bhupender advance

In the boys’ U-16 doubles, top seed pair of Krishan Hooda and Bhupender Dahiya drubbed third seeds Ajay Singh and Sarabjot Singh 6-2 6-1 to ensure a place in the final.

In the girls’ U-16 doubles semifinals, top seeds Srishti Dhir and Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa outplayed fourth seeded pair of Lavanaya Sabharwal and Anushka Sharma 6-2 6-0.
