All set for the day dedicated to yoga & spiritualism

Chandigarh, June 19   

Chandigarh is  set to host the third International Day of Yoga at Sector 17 on June 21.  VP Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator, will be the chief guest.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda and city MP Kirron Kher will also be in attendance.

As many as 3,000 participants are expected to perform yoga on the day. The participants will be from various collaborating organisations from the city — Patanjali, Art of living, Government College for Yoga Education and Health, Sector 23, Brahmrishi Yoga Training College, Sector 19, Brahm Kumaris, Yoga Federation of India, Chandigarh, International Naturopathy Organisation, Chandigarh Yoga Sabha, Bihar School of Yoga for Physical and Mental Health, Red Cross, Chandigarh Yoga Association, Himalayan Yoga, Sachitta Yoga and Chandigarh Police.

Yoga sessions will also be held on the premises of all these organisations. The asanas will also be practised by NSS representatives at Sukhna lake, at the Burail Jail by the Yoga Federation of India, at the cricket stadium by the Sports Department, at Snehalaya and Sector 38 Government Schools of Chandigarh by AYUSH. The multi-level parking in Sector 17 will be made free for the public till 8.30 am.

LED screens will also be installed at the main venue for the live telecast of PM Narendra Modi’s address.  Last year, the Prime Minister performed yoga at the Capitol Complex where more than 30,000 persons had gathered. A full-dress  rehearsal will be held in Sector  17 tomorrow.  

Special camps in Mohali 

The Mohali administration is all set for the yoga session at Multipurpose Sports Stadium, Sector 78, on June 21. Mohali Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra said as many as 500 persons, including students, teachers and government officials, would participate in the district-level event, for which rehearsals were on at different places in the town. 

Sapra added that she, along with other senior administrative and police officials, would also practise yoga on the day.The one-hour event will start at 6 am. The participating students will be from government schools of Sohana, Ballomajra, Daun and Phase IIIB1, Mohali. 

The administration claimed to have made requisite arrangement for buses to ferry schoolchildren. 

Special camps are being organised for the event. In the camps, yoga is being practised by ayurvedic doctors and instructors of the AYUSH Department. T-shirts will be provided to the students free of cost.  

“Apart from the district-level event, separated yoga camps will also be held at the sub-division level,” said Sapra.  

Marathon today

Panchkula: The administration is all geared up for the International Yoga Day on June 21. It has made arrangements for around 3,000 persons at Parade Ground, Sector 5, Panchkula. 

Panchkula ADC Rajesh Jogpal said: “If it rains on June 21, alternative arrangements have been made in the five halls of Mansa Devi premises.” On Monday, in the final rehearsal, more than 3,000 persons took part. The administration is also organising a marathon in Sector 5 on Tuesday.

Yoga rally

Chandigarh: Panjab University held a one-month camp to mark the International Yoga Day. 

A yoga rally was also held today. As many as 650 participants took part in the event. Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover addressed the gathering. Dr Parminder Singh, Director, Sports, said open-yoga competitions for different age-groups would be organised at the PU gymnasium hall on June 20 and the celebrations would take place on June 21 from 6.30 am.

Talk on benefits of yoga 

A seminar on yoga was held at the IMA Complex, Chandigarh, on Monday. Anurag Agarwal, Home Secretary-cum-Health Secretary, Chandigarh, presided over the seminar, while Dr Rakesh K Kashyap, Director Health Services, Chandigarh; Dr Vandana Gupta and other senior officials of the Ayush Department were also present.

Over 250 persons attended the seminar, where various speakers spoke on the benefits of yoga, pranayam and meditation.
