Three days before the student elections, The Tribune get the lowdown on various alliances in GGDSD College, DAV College, Khalsa College, PG College Sector-46 and Government College in Sector 11.
Major contenders have teamed up with various smaller ones to have political advantage over their opponents. For instance, SOI has joined hands with the HPSU and the ABVP at GGDSD College. They are against the Congress-backed NSUI, which is contesting on its own. Jahanvie Saini from SOI, who is in the fray for the post of president, told The Tribune that the party formed an alliance with the HPSU and ABVP for the welfare of students.
At the PGGC (Sector 11), the HSA, INSO, GGSU, HPSU, HIMSU, NSUI are contesting the student elections together, while SOI and PUSU are in the opposition.
Arundeep Thakur from HSA, who is contesting for the post of president at the PGGC (Sector 11), said state was an important factor in formation of alliances. He says PUSU, SOI have come together to fetch votes from students hailing from Punjab.
