Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police inspector Amanjot Singh won the silver medal in the Masters Commonwealth Judo Championship, at Jaipur. He represented India in below 100kg category and won the silver medal. He lost to Varinder Yadav. Around 15 countries-- England, South Africa, Jamaica, Mauritius, Mozambique, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Malta, Pakistan, Singapore and Botswana—participated in this championship. Amanjot will be now representing the nation in the Police & Fire games to held at China, next year in August.
Savar pips Abhinav, Akshat beats Hriday for tennis gold
Chandigarh: Savar defeated Abhinav 6-5 (7) to win the combine U-10 final on the concluding day of the Open Prize Money Tennis Championship, at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, on Sunday. In semifinals, Abhinav defeated Shrawasti 4-2, while Savar bt Innaya with identical score of 4-2. Akshat won the boys’ U-12 category final by defeating Hriday 6-3. In the first semi, he defeated Pragun 4-1, while Hriday defeated Anuj 4-3 (2) in the other. Yashvardhan defeated Shivam 6-1 to win the boys’ U-14 final, and Kartikey won the boys’ U-16 title by defeating Yash 6-2. In the girls’ U-12 final, Shrawasti defeated Ayushi 6-5 (5). Earlier, in the boys’ U-14 semis, Yashvardhan defaeted Kartikey 4-1 and Shivam overpowered Akshat 4-2. TNS
