Amanjot to play for India Green in Challenger Trophy

Chandigarh:  Eighteen-year-old city cricketer Amanjot Kaur became the only cricketer from the region to get selected in the Indian green team for the upcoming T-20 Women’s U-19 Challenger Trophy, to be held in Guntur (Andhra Pradesh). A student of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, Amanjot has been honing her skills at the Sector 32 coaching centre under the guidance of coach Nagesh Gupta. Earlier, she was selected for a 25-day coaching camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. She will be playing for India Green in the Challenger Trophy. She has scored one century and three half-centuries besides taking nine wickets in three domestic matches.

Minerva FC signs Nigerian striker Donatus Edafe 

Mohali: Defending I-League champions Minerva Punjab FC signed Nigerian striker Donatus Edafe from Slovenia’s top-league side ND Gorica. The 25-year-old striker started his career at Nigeria National League II club Jigawa Golden Stars FC's Youth Team after which he featured for Abuja-based FRSC Strikers FC and Mighty Jets FC, who play in the Nigeria National League. He then moved to Slovenia on his first assignment abroad where he featured for ND Gorica. Minerva lost 1-0 to Real Kashmir FC and were held to a goalless draw by Churchill Brothers. They will play their first away match against Aizawl FC on November 10. “I am happy to come here. I am also looking forward to help my team defend the title,” said Edafe.

UT open archery championship postponed 

Chandigarh: The UT Sports Department has postponed the open inter-school cash prize archery championship. The championship will be now organised from November 28 to 30 at the Lake Sports Complex. Earlier, the championship was scheduled to be held from November 15 to 17. Interested players can confirm their entries at the tournament venue or at the Sector 42 Sports Complex before November 25. The winners of the championship will get cash awards.

Cash prize tennis tournament from November 27 

Chandigarh:  The UT Sports Department will organise Open U-14 Tennis Championship from November 27 to 30 at the Lake Sports Complex here. Players residing or studying in the city will be eligible to participate in the championship. Interested players can confirm their entries at the tournament venue or at the Sector 42 Sports Complex before November 22. All participants should bring either their original date of birth certificates, residence proof or attested approval from their respective schools’ principals to participate in the championship. 

State ranking carom meet begins today 

Chandigarh: The 19th edition of the Raj Kumar Babuta Memorial Prize Money Ranking Carom Tournament will start on Friday at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45. A total of six events — men’s, women’s, U-18 boys’ and girls’ and U-14 boys’ and girls’ — will be organised. Top-ranked players such as Mohd. Talib, Mohd. Hassan, Gagandeep Singh, Tuba Sehar, Farhin, Maryam and Nidhi Gupta will be playing in the championship.

Jaskirat wins four gold medals in shooting 

Chandigarh: Sixteen-year-old shooter Jaskirat Singh Sodhi won four gold medals in the junior as well as the senior categories of in the 38th North Zone and West Zone Shotgun Shooting Championship conducted by Uttaranchal State Rifle Association.

Vikram, Harvinder shine in LWCC’s victory  

Chandigarh: Livewire Coaching Centre (LWCC) defeated Mohali Cricket Club by 20 runs in the Donate Eyes T20 Cricket Cup. Batting first, LWCC posted 130/4 in 20 overs. Vikram scored an unbeaten contribution of 52 runs, while Harvinder Singh scored 50 runs. Aarush added 15 runs to the total. Ankit, Aaryan and Vivek Guleria were the wicket takers. In reply, Mohali Cricket Club were bundled out for 110 runs in 18.1 overs. Vikas Saini (38) was the highest scorer but he couldn’t find support. Arun Luthra claimed 4/28, while Harvinder Singh (2/3) and Shahid Ahmed (2/30) took two wickets each. TNS
