Army jawan from Lalru cremated with honours

An Army jawan Gurpreet Singh (24), resident of Dharamgarh village, was cremated with full honours amidst tearful eyes here today.

Earlier, the jawan’s body, wrapped in Tricolour, was brought with full honours by Army personnel to Dharamgarh village today.

Apart from family members, relatives, acquaintances and friends, a large number of residents along with local political leaders reached the cremation ground to pay respect to Gurpreet Singh, who died during his training drill in Leh on Tuesday.

The Dera Bassi SDM, Puja Syal, paid honours to the jawan on behalf of the Mohali administration.

Earlier, body of jawan was flown to the Air Force base in Chandigarh.

It is to be noted that Gurpreet Singh had joined the Sikh Regiment Unit No. 6 as a sepoy in 2014. He was unmarried. A few years after posting in Bathinda, Gurpreet was posted in Leh last year. Gurpeet is survived by his father, two sisters and two brothers. One of his sisters was to get married this November. Gurpreet lost his mother a few years ago.
