Panchkula, November 27

A lackadaisical approach of the authorities has come to the fore in the allotment of flats meant for those belonging to economically weaker sections. These flats were constructed in 2012.

The delay in the allotment of these flats has not only caused losses to the exchequer but also eroded the structure.

At present, 112 Ashiana flats are vacant in Sectors 20, 26 (A and B), 28 and the Industrial Area, Phase I, Panchkula. As many as 119 applicants are currently staying at Madrasi Colony (Phase I & II).

According to information, a meeting of the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Jagdeep Dhanda, was held to scrutinise the applications for the flats. Dhanda had directed HSVP officials to present the final report to him as soon as possible.

Besides, as many as 24 flats were built by the Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty at Bitna village in Pinjore in 2012, which are yet to be allotted. Former Union Minister Kumaro Shailja had inaugurated these. The state government had constituted a four-member committee to allot these houses to economically weaker sections. The government had also sought applications through advertisements in vernacular dailies but till now only 10 applications have been received.

The condition of the vacant flats is poor as their windowpanes and doors had been worn out with time. The plaster on the walls has also come off. Taps in washrooms and kitchens have been stolen by miscreants.

MC Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal said they had finalised the tender for repairing the 24 flats at Bitna village. As many as Rs 24 lakh will be spent on it. He said the Ashiana flats would be repaired by the HSVP.
