Chandigarh, April 6
Ashok Chauhan was elected the president of the Chandigarh District Bar Association for the fourth time on Friday. A total of 1,579 votes were polled during the elections, held at the District Courts Complex in Sector 43. Chauhan won the post of the president by a margin of 29 votes. Shankar Gupta was elected the vice-president while Sunil Narang was elected as secretary. Anju Rathore was elected as joint secretary for the seat reserved for women and Rohit Bedi was elected as treasurer.
The winners were welcomed with garlands by their supporters, who danced on dhol beats. Sweets were distributed among all as everyone wanted to take a selfie with the winners.
Newly elected president Ashok Chauhan said implementing the manifesto would be his priority. However, he added that he would not allow any police complaint against any advocate without consulting him. He added that judges should treat all advocates equally.
Maximum margin: Anju Rathore, joint secretary: 439 votes
Minimum margin: Ashok Chauhan, president: 29 votes
Maximum votes: Sunil Narang, Secretary: 997
Least votes: Preet Kawal Gill, president candidate: 82
