Athletes Pooja, Aanchal triumph

Pooja and Aanchal Sandhu were adjudged the best women athletes at the 7th Annual Athletics Meet of Chandigarh University, Gharuan, which concluded here on Sunday. Dinesh Kumar and Avinash Shekhawat shared the honour in the men’s category. 

Pooja won five gold medals, while Aanchal finished the championship with one gold, three silver and a bronze medal. 

Shekhawat, meanwhile, topped the men’s 5000m, 3000m, 1500m, 800m and 400m. He was also a part of the gold medal winning men’s 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams. Dinesh Kumar returned home with four gold medals.

In discus throw, Gaurav (33.40m) and Rashmi (23.5m) won a gold medal each in their respective categories. The duo also dominated the field in the men’s and women’s shot put competition, respectively.   

Robin Singh (5.64m) claimed the gold in men’s long jump. — TNS
