Badnore to inaugurate PU girls hostel number 10 today

Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator VP Singh Badnore and MP Kirron Kher will inaugurate Neerja Bhanot Girls Hostel-10 at Panjab University (PU) on Tuesday.

They will unveil the plaque of Dewan Anand Kumar at the administrative building and also inaugurate T-1 flats at the PU south campus.

Neerja Bhanot Girls Hostel Number 10 is named after the youngest recipient of India’s highest peacetime gallantry award, Ashoka Chakra. The hostel will accommodate 336 students. It consists of 38 rooms with attached washrooms and 130 normal rooms. All rooms will accommodate two students.

“The rooms are well-lit with sufficient space for reading. It has a seminar hall also,” said the PU spokesperson.

The research scholars will get rooms with attached washrooms. The charges will be Rs 200 per month for normal rooms, and Rs 500 for those with attached washrooms. No rent will be charged from the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe students.

The power charges will be Rs 500 per month and development fund will be Rs 1,000 per month for rooms with common washrooms. For rooms with attached washrooms, the power charges will be Rs 700 per month and development fund will be Rs 2,000 per month. 

The water bill, celebration fund, lift charges will be Rs 100 each per month and the establishment charges will be Rs 1,000 per month for both kind of rooms. However, routine hostel maintenance charges will be Rs 500 per month for rooms with common washrooms and Rs 1,000 per month for rooms with attached washrooms.

The mess fund charges, optional charges and other fee and fine will be the same as applicable to other hostels.


T-1 flats

Thirty flats for Professors and Associate Professors are ready to be inaugurated. Each flat consists of three bedrooms, one study room, attached bathrooms, separate drawing-cum-dining room and a modular kitchen.

Dewan Anand Kumar Hall

Dewan Anand Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University from August 1, 1949, to June 30, 1959, was the founding father of the present-day PU. In 1958, the Registrar’s Office was shifted to Dewan Anand Kumar Hall which is surrounded by beautiful landscape.
