Beniwal to be new UT police chief

CHANDIGARH: Sanjay Beniwal, a 1989-batch IPS officer, will be the new UT police chief with TS Luthra, a 1990-batch IPS officer who is at present the UT DGP, being transferred after serving the city for two years and three months.

Sanjay Beniwal, a 1989-batch IPS officer, will be the new UT police chief with TS Luthra, a 1990-batch IPS officer who is at present the UT DGP, being transferred after serving the city for two years and three months.

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday issued the transfer orders of six IPS officers, including Beniwal and Luthra.

Luthra, a 1990-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, had taken over as the IGP, Chandigarh, on March 8, 2016, replacing RP Upadhyay, a 1991-batch IPS officer.

In February 2017, Luthra was promoted as the Additional Director General of Police by the Ministry of Home Affairs in the UT cadre after which he was designated the Director General of Police, UT.
