The tricity was abuzz with news of students excelling the CBSE Class X results, which were announced today. Four students from the tricity have emerged among the top three positions in the country, while 10 students from Chandigarh and Panchkula shared the top three positions in the tricity.
Drishti Gupta stood second in the country by securing 498 marks out of 500, 99.6 per cent. She is a student of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 15, Panchkula. The tricity topper wants to pursue BTech in Astronomy. She said she was attracted to stars and other things in the universe since her childhood.
She abstained from using social media such as WhatsApp and Facebook as it was a major distraction for her.
“I didn’t expect more than 98 per cent marks, but now I feel happy to have bagged the second rank throughout the country,” said Drishti.
The tricity topper’s father said he never forced Drishti to study as she was self-motivated. He said she had her goals in mind and was concentrating on achieving these.
Three students have shared the second position in the tricity and all-India rank three in the country by securing 497 marks out of 500. Among them is another student of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 15, Panchkula, Hiteshwar Sharma, who secured 99.4 per cent marks.
Sharma is not only good in studies, but is also the captain of the under-17 Panchkula cricket team and has represented Haryana in the national games twice.
He had also won a gold medal in the school games. He said, “My parents had never pressured me for study and wanted me to become a good person”. Sharma wants to pursue humanities and wants to be an IAS officer after completing his graduation.
Rishika Chaudhary from Holy Child School, Panchkula, has also emerged third in the country with 94.4 per cent marks. She said she wanted to pursue humanities and after completing her graduation, she would prepare for the UPSC exam. Rishika said, “I used to study for six to seven hours a day and was focused on my studies”.
She too preferred to stay away from the social media. Her parents and teachers, especially her elder sister, who is pursuing BSc, helped her in her studies.
City boy Shridhar Vashishtha, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector 31, made the city proud by securing 497 marks out of 500. Asked about his exam strategy, Vashishtha said, “I tried to stick to the NCERT syllabus as I believe nothing comes out of context. I practised a lot of diagrams and previous 10 years’ question papers. I followed everything that my teachers kept telling me in the class.”
He scored 100 marks in mathematics, science and hindi and got 98 marks in English and 99 marks in social science.
Vashishtha, who lives in Raipur Khurd, gives credit to his mother for his success. He said, “My mother is a government employee and manages household chores simultaneously very well. I drove all inspirations form my mother. She fulfilled everything that I asked for.”
He is also not on social media, but likes to watch cartoon shows for rejuvenation. He used to study six to seven hours daily.
Vashishtha likes to read autobiographies of scientists and his favourite scientist is Issac Newton. His dream is to get admission to the best engineering college of the country, the IIT, Bombay. He wants to pursue computer engineering.
His mother Manbhar Jyoti is a Central Government employee, while his father Brijmohan Vashishtha works with The Tribune.
