Chandigarh, September 8   

Bhavya Thakur clocked 1.00.17 to win the boys’ U-17 100m freestyle title on the first day of the Open Swimming Championship, organised by the UT Sports Department at the Sector 43 Sports Complex, here on Saturday.

Shahdeep Singh (1:02.30) won the silver, while Soumil Arora (1:10.04) claimed the bronze medal. 

In the boys’ U-14 category, Akshaj claimed the 100m freestyle gold with a timing of 1:05.49. He was followed by Rakshak Thakur (1:09.29) in second place, while Yatharth Rawat (1:09.61) bagged the third position.

Manasvini Dwivedi clocked 1:16.36 to win the gold medal in the girls’ U-14 100m freestyle event. Kirti Joshi (1:26.42) and Saachi Sharma (1:34.04) claimed the second and third position, respectively. 

In the boys’ U-12 category, Dhruv Gupta (1:14.02) claimed the top spot in the 100m freestyle event. Kanwarjeet Singh (1:14.99) finished second, while Aeshanjyot Singh (1:23.52) ended in third place. 

Shahdeep wins gold  

Shahdeep Singh won the 50m breaststroke title in the boys’ U-17 competition. He clocked 36.00s to win the gold medal. Yash Rathee (38.49) bagged the silver, while Navneet Yadav (50.22) returned with the bronze medal. 

Jayant Punj (38.10), Karanveer Singh (39.24) and Rakshak Thakur (41.01) won the top-three positions, respectively, in the boys’ U-14 50m breaststroke event . 

Dhruv Gupta dominated the pool in the boys’ U-12 50m breaststroke competition. He clocked 40.30s to claim the gold medal. Aeshanjyot (43.62) and Meet Sharma (1:06.32) claimed the second and third position, respectively. 

Twin titles for Varnika

In the girls’ U-12 category, Varnika Bashambu recorded a timing of 1:12.30 to win the gold medal in the 100m freestyle competition.

She was followed by Sanchi Bhargava (1:22.22) and Praghya Rana (1:26.37) in second and third place, respectively.

In the girls’ U-17 100m freestyle event, Tishya Kapur (1:16.03) won the gold medal, while Preena Kaur (1:20.70) bagged the silver. Nishita (1:21.33) had to be content with the bronze medal. 

Varnika won her second gold medal after she clocked 35.00s in the girls’ U-12 50m butterfly competition. Vanisha Bashambu (38.06) claimed the silver medal, while Tista Tewani (39.33) won the bronze. 

Vanisha, meanwhile, won the gold medal in the girls’ U-12 50m breaststroke event with a timing of 41.20. Tista claimed (43.20) the second position and Sanchi Bhargava (45.45) finished in the third place. 

Daksh on top 

Daksh Sidhu clocked 50.12 to win the boys’ U-10 50m breaststroke title. Randeep Bhadu (51.62) and Nishant Bhardwaj (56.00) claimed the second and third position respectively. 

In the girls’ U-10 category, Shubhnoor Kaur Vaid topped the 50m breaststroke competition with a timing of 59.15. Bhavnoor Kaur Vaid (1:03.00) and Deveishi Suri (1:06.27) claimed the second and third position, respectively. In the girls’ U-17 50m butterfly competition, Jasmeet Kaur (33.86) won the gold, Tishya Kapur (34.88) bagged the silver and Gurnoor Kaur (37.68) clinched the bronze medal. 

Akshaj clocked 33.10 to win the gold medal in the boys’ U-14 50m butterfly event. Gurkirat (34.04) and Zorawar Singh (35.78) claimed the second and third position, respectively. 

In the boys’ U-12 50m butterfly competition, Parth clocked 36.80 to claim the gold medal. He was followed by Jaskirat Singh Ubhi (38.66) in second place, while Aeshanjyot (43.00) ended in third place.
