Chandigarh, May 15
A 1999-batch Punjab-cadre IAS, Bhawna Garg, on Tuesday joined as the Deputy Director General (DDG) in the Chandigarh regional office of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) under the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. She replaced Ram Subhag Singh, a 1987-batch Himachal Pradesh-cadre IAS officer.
Garg was earlier serving as Secretary, Employment Generation and Training, Technical Education and Industrial Training with the Punjab Government. The Chandigarh regional office of UIDAI has been assigned to enroll and issue Aadhaar cards to residents of Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
Garg said her focus would be to enrol the left-out below adult population (under 18 years), especially in the age category of 0 to 5 years. Aadhaar saturation for age category 0-5 years in five northern states, including UT, under the UIDAI, Chandigarh Regional office, was 61.9 per cent with 42,04,441 children already having Aadhaar cards.
