Former president Bikramjit Singh Bhullar regained his post as he defeated Vinay Vatrana in the District Bar Association (DBA) elections, here on Friday.
Out of the six office posts, the Bhullar group swept five positions. From the Vatrana group, Kuljeet Kaur Dhaliwal was the lone winner as she defeated Amanpreet Singh Bhatia for the post of joint secretary.
A high volt battle between Bikramjit Singh Bhullar and Vinay Vatrana for the post of president was the main focus of the ballot. It was not just the incumbent office-bearers who were battle-ready; city advocates, including a few former vice-presidents and other office-bearers of the DBA, were also in the fray for the 16 posts.
Over 80 per cent of the 1,393 electors cast their vote on Friday, an official said. However, out of the total 1,123 votes cast, five were declared tender votes. Tenders votes come into play if there is a tie at the end of the counting.
Despite in pain, veteran TN Sharma, one of the voters, reached the polling booth with a fractured foot. Sharma, said, “Every advocate should exercise their right to vote to elect their representative.”
Returning Officer Dinesh Kumar Batish, said, “Voting took place smoothly. There were five tender votes which will be counted if there is a tie.”
Vatrana, however, alleged that one of his group members contesting for the elections conspired against him.”
