Bittu is president of Sector 21 RWA

Baljinder Singh Bittu has been re-elected as the president of the Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA), Sector 21, for which elections were held here today.
He defeated Vishal Garg Narwana, an advocate and son of a senior lawyer of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, by 134 votes. Bittu secured 628 votes, while Narwnaa got 494 votes in the elections, which were held under tense environment after former councillor PC Sanghi filed a complaint against Bittu and others on Saturday.
A total of 1,159 votes were polled, of which 37 were declared invalid. Though the elections went off peacefully, a scuffle took place between two groups after Bittu supporter Pardeep Chopra alleged manhandling by some people after the counting. However, the police controlled the situation.
Later, Chopra filed a police complaint in Sector 19 against former councillor PC Sanghi and two others for threatening and assaulting him. In the complaint, he alleged that Sanghi directed two persons to attack him.
However, Sanghi denied allegations and said it was a counterattack as he filed a complaint against them yesterday. He was nowhere in the picture.
The elections had become the talk of the town after different associations also entered into campaigning. Several prominent residents, including the Mayor, reside in this sector. The elections also took a political turn as Bittu was supported by Congress president Pardeep Chhabra, while several BJP leaders were seen supporting Narwana.
Bittu said he would work for the development of the Sector. Narwana said it was a contest between two friends and he would cooperate with Bittu in the development works. It has been the fourth consecutive victory of Bittu as the RWA president. The elections of the RWA are held every two years. Bittu is also the Chairman of FOSWAC.
