Mohali, June 4

A squall followed by rain on late Monday night left residents of Mohali and nearby areas high and dry. It was a total blackout for several hours in most parts of the town as strong winds damaged several electricity poles.

MC officials and those at the local fire station said they received hundreds of calls about uprooted trees and fallen electricity poles/cables.

Sources said 12 cars and two-wheelers were damaged. A wall of an under-construction house gave way in Balongi village. In several parts of the town and nearby areas, power remained suspended for eight to 12 hours. Parts of Phase 7 were the worst hit where power was restored after more than 16 hours. Parts of Kharar and Nayagaon saw power failure for over 15 hours. In Phase 1, 2, 3B2, Sector 70 and 71, the supply was restored by 11 am and at Phase 9, 10 and 11 by noon.

Adding to the residents’ woes, water supply remained suspended in most parts of the town in the morning because of power outage. —TNS
