Patiala-based readers’ club ‘Book Lovers’ Retreat’ added another feather to its cap by holding an interactive session with young and charismatic author Ravinder Singh.

Around 50 women discussed his books and his work. Speaking at the event at the Army Club, the young writer said most of his work was based on observations and personal experiences he has had in the recent years.

“My characters come from my imagination and the imaginations are from various kinds of people I have met and known,” he said.

Ravinder Singh has to his credit some best sellers such “I too had a love story”, “Your dreams are mine now”, “Can love happen twice”, “Love stories that touched my heart”. His latest book “Love that feels right” is doing amazingly well too.

Ravinder Singh is an Indian author who was a well-bred engineer and started off his career with an illustrious IT establishment, but his penchant for writing and some life incidents motivated him to become a full-time author.

Interacting with the members of the club, Ravinder Singh said that with the social media and other mediums ruling the charts, it was a challenge for publishing houses and the writers to find readers. “However I still believe that quality will sell and therefore anyone who will provide quality writing will be successful,” he said.

An all-women book club ‘The Book Lovers’ Retreat’ was started by like-minded friends — Simrat Matta, Neetu Narula, Rajni Dang, Daman Chattwal, Cherry Garg and Shifali Gupta. With the passage of time, more avid book lovers from the city — Dr Kiranjot Uppal, Dr Damanjit Sandhu, Vitesha Bedi, Khushnuma Grewal, Dr. Aaeyna Sood, Dr. Sabreena Sandhu, Kiran Grewal, Ritu Tiwana, Anu Behl, Anu Brar, Neetu Chopra, Ritu Jain and Dr Birinder Chopra — joined the club.

The club regularly hosts author interactive sessions with authors from various fields and have already held sessions with writers such as Dr Neel Kamal Puri, Nikunj Sharma, Divya Dutta, Parvesh Chandel, Khushwant Singh, Bhavna Arora and Dr Jas Kohli.

Specially invited for the event were the students from Punjab Public School, Nabha. These girls not only asked questions from Ravinder Singh, but also got some techniques to brush up their art of writing.

“Our group chooses two books per month — a light read by any Indian author and a critically-acclaimed book by a foreign author. We set a reasonable target date for discussions and try to choose titles that promise to stretch our minds and also warrant collaborative discussions,” said club members Damanjit Sandhu, Neetu Narula and Simrat Matta.
