Chandigarh, September 25

Mandip Singh Brar, a Haryana-cadre IAS officer of the 2005 batch, is all set to join as the new Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh as the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his name for the post, recommended by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Brar is at present posted as the Deputy Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

Brar has served in various capacities, including Chief Administrator of the Haryana State Agriculture Marketing Board, Managing Director, Haryana Warehousing Corporation, and as the Deputy Commissioner of Panchkula, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar and Ambala.

Brar has also served as the Deputy Commissioner of Karnal, the home constituency of the Chief Minister. The Chandigarh Administration recommended his name for the post from a panel of officers sent by the Haryana Government.

In July this year, the Haryana Government had sent the panel, which had the names of Ravi Prakash Gupta (2007 batch) and Raj Narayan Kaushik (2010 batch), besides that of Brar to succeed Ajit Balaji Joshi as the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh. The three-year tenure of Joshi is ending next month. The post of the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh is reserved for a Haryana-cadre IAS officer. Brar’s wife Ashima Brar is also a Haryana-cadre IAS officer. She is one year senior to her husband. She is posted as the Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Haryana. Brar has studied in Chandigarh.

Brar said he was yet to receive any communication about his Chandigarh assignment. As per the procedure for the inter-cadre appointment, the MHA will issue a formal order for the appointment after getting approval from the ACC.
