Challan book stolen, 1 booked

Chandigarh: An unknown person has been booked for theft after a challan book was stolen from a cop’s scooter in Sector 44 here. Head Constable Mohinder Singh reported that he parked his scooter near the beat box in Sector 44 on August 8. He went for patrolling and later found the challan book missing. TNS

Sec 34 academy officials booked

Chandigarh: The UT police have registered a case against officials of Mountroyl Academy in Sector 34 here for duping a man of Rs 1.15 lakh. According to the police, complainant Abinn Malhotra, a resident of Paonta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh (HP), alleged that Rahul and others of Mountroyl Academy took money from him on the pretext of sending him and his sister to Dubai. According to complainant, the suspects had promised them jobs in Dubai. However, they failed to do the same. A case has been registered against the suspects at the Sector 34 police station. TNS

Cellphone SEIZED from jail inmate

Ambala: A mobile phone was recovered from an inmate at the Central Jail in Ambala City during an inspection on Tuesday night. According to information, a search was conducted in room numbers 2 and 8 of block number 7. During the inspection, a mobile phone, along with a SIM card, was recovered from Gagan. He informed jail officials that Rajkumar, another inmate, had given the mobile phone to him. A case has been registered against both inmates under Section 42 of the Prisons Act. TNS

Two held with ammunition

Ambala: The police have arrested two persons in separate cases and claimed to have recovered illicit arms and ammunition from them, officials said here on Wednesday. According to the police, Farman of Yamunanagar was arrested during a checking drive on the Naraingarh T-point. During his search, a .12-bore country-made pistol and a live cartridge were recovered. In another case, Arvind, alias Monu, of Yamunanagar was held with a .315-bore illicit pistol and a live cartridge during a checking drive near the Lotto turn in Naraingarh. The suspects were produced before courts, which sent them to 14-day judicial remand, the officials said. TNS

25-yr-old girl goes missing

Zirakpur: A 25-year-old girl went missing from Zirakpur. Her family members apprehended that she might have been abducted by someone who wanted to marry her. The victim’s father told the police that his daughter left home on the night of August 12, but did not return. The victim's family members looked out for her and even contacted their relatives, but to no avail. The complainant stated that the suspect might have lured the girl on the pretext of marriage. The police have started investigations. OC
