CBSE award for 3 city educators

Three city teachers have been selected for the CBSE Teachers Award-2019. The schedule of the award ceremony is yet to be released by the board.

Apart from his 17 years teaching experience, Dr Rajinder Singh Kamboj, Punjabi teacher at GMHS, Sector 43A, Chandigarh, has contributed in the translation of NCERT books in Punjabi medium of Classes II, IV, V, VII and VIII at SIE, Sector 32, Chandigarh, in 2008. He also helped the UT Education Department in the development of e-content material for smart schools in 2012 and 2013.

Jyotika Guleria, a primary wing teacher at Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh, will also be conferred with the CBSE award. Her action research on cognitive ability and peer tutoring has not only benefitted her students immensely, but he has also endeared the subject among them. Her main objective is to enhance the inquisitiveness and knowledge of her students so that they can analyse and solve their real-life challenges. She also encourages ‘peer tutoring’ by making students learn amongst themselves.

Paramjeet Singh, physics lecturer (regular) at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 8B, has been guiding his students to make science models in finding technical solutions to everyday problems like ‘smart farming’, ‘innovative barnyard of cows’, ‘cycling tracks of Chandigarh’ and ‘solution of automobile pollution’. He has also played key role in establishing initiatives like ‘tinkering science corner’, ‘mini science lab- portable science kit’, and developing blogs as an interactive medium to demonstrate the skills of the students and to make physics teaching interesting and effective.

16 teachers to be awarded today

Nine teachers of various schools will be honoured with the state award, while three will be given the commendation certificate and four will be honoured with special appreciation certificates in a function organised by the Education Department to celebrate the Teachers’ Day at Tagore Theatre on Thursday.
