Centre’s nod to 1,000 posts for PGI’s Sangrur centre

To improve healthcare services in the region, the Union Health Ministry has sanctioned nearly 1,000 posts for the satellite centre of the PGIMER at Sangrur in Punjab.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the PGIMER governing body, chaired by Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, in New Delhi today, said Dr Jagat Ram, Director, PGIMER.

The governing body also approved 36 posts of faculty and other staff at the drug de-addiction treatment centre of the PGIMER. The ministry also approved a proposal to increase the spending power of the Institute Purchase Committee (IPC).

The Director said: “Earlier, the IPC could spend only Rs 25 lakh for purchasing various items. Now, the purchasing power of the committee has been increased to Rs 1 crore.”

The governing body has also approved the appointment of 88 faculty positions at the PGIMER and 45 faculty positions at AIIMS, Bathinda, and AIIMS, Bareilly. He said the governing body also approved appointment to various posts in the institute. — TNS
