Chandigarh, July 5
The police have filed a challan under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC against a 40-year-old rickshaw-puller, Sinder Pal, who had allegedly shoved his 16-year-old daughter’s face on a burning gas stove.
Sanjana, a Class X student, had received burns on her neck and her hair was also burnt. She has stated that her father was drunk at that time.
On April 11, the Mauli Jagran police rushed to a house in Sector 37 after a call was received that a man had tried to burn his daughter. The call was made by the women and child helpline, which was informed by the victim. The girl was taken to the GMSH-16 and her father was arrested.
Sanjana stated that she lived with her parents and brother. On the fateful night, around 9 pm, her father arrived home in an inebriated condition. Sinder Pal asked her to make a “parantha” for him. She replied that she was making dinner for her brother and mother and would make the “parantha” later.
Sinder Pal left the kitchen, but returned and hit the girl. He then shoved her face on top of the stove flame. However, her mother came and pushed Sinder Pal away, but Sanjana lost some of her hair and received burns on her neck. She also said that her father was in the habit of hitting her when drunk. — TNS
