Chandigarh, November 16
To mark National Press Day, the Punjab and Chandigarh Journalists Union (PCJU) today organised a seminar on challenges before journalism at the Punjab Kala Bhawan here.
Dr Piyare Lal Garg, former registrar of the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, said journalist fraternity needs to work in an organised and united manner in the form of unions to fight back the present challenges in the field of journalism.
Applauding the professional journalists, Dr Garg said journalists had been dispersing their responsibility and duty even after going beyond all kind of pressure and suppression of all times.
Senior journalist Jaspal Singh Sidhu, while recalling the black era of Punjab, said journalists had been working under suppression and difficult situation in those times. He said no doubt journalists had been struggling hard for their survival and bread, but it was not the only reason on which a journalist would ever make any compromise.
He said as many as 265 fake websites had been identified which spread misinformation.
Secretary of the Indian Journalist Union and chairman of the Punjab and Chandigarh Journalist Union Balbir Jandu and president of the PCJU (Chandigarh Unit) Jai Singh Chhibber also spoke on the occasion. — TNS
