The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) is all set to start a demand survey for the new housing scheme to be launched in Sector 53.

Sources said the board had prepared a blueprint for the demand survey which is likely to begin soon. The demand survey is being carried out after the board of directors had raised a question mark over the high rates fixed for the flats under the scheme. The board is planning to build more than 500 flats under different categories, but the rates fixed for the scheme is highest so far.

The CHB has fixed Rs 1,79, 91,000 for three-bedroom (BHK) flat, Rs 1,47, 08, 000 for two BHK, Rs 94,67,000 for one BHK and Rs 50,11,000 for one BHK (EWS) flat. The new prices fixed by the CHB are the highest in the tricity.

While the CHB officials justified the high rates saying the tentative figures had been calculated on the basis of approved cost of land at the rate of Rs 74,131 per square yard, the directors of the board said there was no point in launching the scheme, which might not be succeeded due to high price.

A CHB official said since the scheme was self financial, land rates were being charged on the collector rates. He said the board would conduct the survey under which the residents would be asked to give their consent for the new rates.

He said if the board got good response, the scheme would be launched. This is for the first time that the CHB is planning to launch a demand survey for any scheme. Ruchi Singh, secretary, CHB, said the modalities for the demand survey were being finalised and would be announced soon.
