Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has revised and updated application forms for its various facilities. The application forms and related documents have been simplified in such a way that the applicant can download these from the website of the CHB — www.chbonline.in — and fill these without any assistance. To avoid wastage of the existing stationery and for the convenience of the public, it has been decided that till December 31, old application formats will also be accepted. However, from January 1, applications will be accepted only in new formats. TNS

Non-teaching staff to be paid
Chandigarh: The PU has decided to pay remuneration to the examiners, lab staff and contingencies. Prof Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examination, said after consistent efforts, the proposal has been accepted. They will be paid honorarium and contingency as per the University Rules immediately.
Thieves strike at vita booth
Chandigarh: Cash and valuables were stolen from a Vita booth at IT Park, Mani Majra. According to the police, complainant Ravi Sharma reported that Rs 25,000, a hard disk of a CCTV camera, an LED and a mobile phone were stolen after breaking the lock of the Vita booth on the intervening night of November 23 and 24. The police have registered a case at the IT Park police station. TNS
Brazilian expo begins today
Chandigarh: The Embassy of Brazil, in collaboration with Chandigarh Lalit Kala Academy and Le Corbusier Centre, is organising an exhibition on Brazilian architecture, ‘Modernity as Tradition’, from November 26. The exhibition, which will be on till December 3, aims at presenting the complexity and richness of the Brazilian architecture developed in the 20th and early 21st centuries. TNS
One arrested for smuggling drugs
Ambala: The district police on Monday arrested Ramandeep of Mahesh Nagar near here for supplying drugs. According to the police, the arrest was made a day after Ravinder Singh, alias Rinku of Mahesh Nagar, was arrested with 6.55-gm heroin. Rinku, who was taken into two-day police remand, told the police during interrogation that he had taken the contraband from Ramandeep. Acting on the revelation, the police nabbed Ramandeep and produced him before a local court, which remanded him to 14-day judicial custody. TNS
Two snatchers in police net
Ambala: The district police have arrested Pulkit, alias Ankit, of Baldev Nagar near here and Ashish, alias Ashu of Ambala City, for committing snatchings and claimed to have recovered a snatched mobile phone from their possession, officials said here on Monday. According to the police, a local woman had reported to the police on September 16 that the duo, who was riding on a motorcycle, had snatched her mobile phone from near the girls’ school in Ambala City. The suspects were produced before a court, which sent them to 14-day judicial remand, the officials added. TNS
Thief caught with stolen cash
Ambala: The district police have arrested Jagtar of Mahesh Nagar near here and claimed to have recovered stolen cash from his possession. In his complaint to the police, Manjit Singh of Mahesh Nagar had stated that a music system, a tool box of tractor, documents of a motorcycle and cash
were stolen from his house on the intervening night of November 20 and 21. The suspect was arrested and produced before a local court, which remanded him to 14-day judicial custody. TNS
Five arrested for assault
Ambala: Five persons have been arrested in separate cases of assault, officials said here on Monday. According to the police, Gurcharan, alias Chhotu, Malkit, alias Bhoora, and Sumit, alias Suraj of Parav near here, were arrested for assaulting and threatening Shamsher Singh and his son of Shahpur village near Parav on Saturday. In a separate case, Sanjeev and Sushil of Parav were arrested for assaulting and threatening Randeep Singh of Parav on November 18. The suspects were produced before a local court, which ordered to release them on bail, officials said. TNS

Chandigarh: Livewire Coaching Centre (LWCC) defeated Adda's Cricket XI by 101 runs to qualify for the No Tension- Have Fun Cricket Trophy semifinals. Batting first, LWCC scored 203/4 in 20 overs. Harvinder Nain (71) was the top scorer for the side, while Harshul Vats (53), Pankaj (35) and Shahid Ahmed (15) were the other main contributors for the side. Amit claimed two wickets, while Sachin Patial and Jitender took one each for the bowling side. In reply, Adda's XI scored 102 runs before getting all out in 13.1 overs. Bihar lift U-17 cricket trophy
Chandigarh: Bihar recorded a 55-run win over Karnataka to won the 35th All India Shaheed Bhagat Singh U-17 Trophy. Batting first, Bihar posted 186/7 in 25 overs with the help of Harsh Gupta (70) and Sampooran Thripathi (53). Hemanth Singhu (3/19) and Ishan (2/32) were the main wicket takers for the bowling side. In reply, Karnataka posted 131 runs before getting all out in 22.3 overs. Sindhu (59) and Arjun Sethy (25) remain the main run scorers for the side.
