Chandigarh has topped the Logistic Ease Across Different States (LEADS) index among UTs. Harjeet Singh Sandhu, Director, Industries, received the award during a meeting of the Board of Trade (BOT) at New Delhi under the chairmanship of Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways Piyush Goyal.
The top ranking states in the logistics sector were awarded on the occasion.
As per the LEADS report-2019, Chandigarh, which bagged the first prize among UTs, scored 3.45 points. Last time, it secured the third rank among UTs.
The LEADS index is an effort by the Commerce and Industry Ministry to establish the base line of performance in the logistics sector based on the perception of users and stakeholders at the state level. It provides the basis for stakeholder engagement, discussions and evolving action plan by various agencies.
The State Logistics Performance Index is arrived at using a ranking methodology based on a series of meetings with stakeholders and online surveys in the key areas of logistics such as infrastructure, services, timelines, traceability, competitiveness, security, operating environment and efficiency of regulation. UT Adviser Manoj Kumar Parida said the award was the result of efforts made by the administration in this field.
