A 14-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in a washroom at her house in Phase 11 here. The victim was a student of Class IX at a private school in Chandigarh.
According to the police, the matter came to light when the victim’s grandfather went to the washroom and found it bolted from inside. The victim’s body was found hanging from the window of the washroom, said Mohali DSP (City II) Ramandeep Singh.
The DSP said according to the kin of the victim, she was under stress related to her studies.
“According to her grandfather, she was studying at Mount Carmel Convent in Sector 47, Chandigarh, and they were doing their bit to ease her stress, but she took the extreme step,” said the DSP. The DSP said there could be some issue with the school and they were looking into it.
She was taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, where she was declared brought dead by doctors.
“Investigations are on,” said the DSP, adding that inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC had been initiated in the case at the Phase 11 police station. —TNS
