Ropar, March 12
Crossing all hurdles and taking oscillations on the sandy and muddy track, Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, was announced the winner of the all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) race held at IIT, Ropar here yesterday.
The team got a cash prize of Rs 1,50,000.
The Government College of Engineering, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, was declared as the first runners-up and received Rs 1 lakh as cash prize. A total of 25 ATVs manufactured by engineering students from different colleges were at test during the four-day BAJA SAEIndia 2018.
The four-hour endurance race was flagged off by Punjab Minister of Local Government, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Navjot Singh Sidhu. The ATVs covered 2.98-km race track consisting of muddy pits, cliffs and slopes of 15-20 feet of height.
Mahindra & Mahindra Managing Director Pawan Goenka and IIT Ropar Director SK Das were present on the occasion.
Varinder Singh of Chitkara University, Rajpura, got the Dronacharaya Award, which is meant for mentors (faculty members) who helped students to make their ATVs. The Pride of Punjab (Punjab & Chandigarh) Award was grabbed by PEC, Chandigarh.
CEO of ASDC Sunil Chaturvedi presided over as the chief quest and gave the prizes to the winners.
25 teams made it to the endurance round
As many as 388 teams had registered in the 11th edition of BAJA SAEINDIA, out of which 221 teams qualified for the final. However, only 25 teams made it to the endurance round.
