While the local Municipal Corporation had issued a public notice on October 30 last year asking dog owners in the district to register their pets within 30 days, only 341 pet dogs have been registered so far.

After receiving a cold response from residents, MC officials have now decided to start a survey on Monday to identify those who have not registered their pet dogs so far. A penalty would be imposed on them.

MC Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal said directions had been issued to hold a survey and the civic body would also take help of the Kennel Club in Chandigarh in this exercise. The registration would be done as per Section 311 of the Municipal Corporation Act-1994, he added.

Jogpal said the registration of pet dogs would help them keep a record of their number. Presently, the MC does not have an official count of pet dogs. The MC would issue a registration number and provide a brass token with the number engraved on it.
