The Passion Theatre Welfare Society staged a Punjabi comedy play, “Je Aashiq Mil Jaande”, in Jaspal Bhatti Comedy Series at Tagore Theatre here today. It was organised by Tagore Theatre Society.

The fictional play depicts an alarming rise in divorce cases due to lack of tolerance, which is killing the emotional bond in holy institution of marriage. Playwright director-actor Padam Sindra envisioned that if married, slumbering love legends of Punjab like Heer-Ranjha and others too would have sought divorce.

Structured in the court room, all folklore love legends, regarded as the epitome of love and sacrifice, file their divorce papers along with other local couples. The divorce-seeker legends include Sassi-Punnnu, Mirza-Sahiban, Laila-Majnu and Heer-Ranjha. However, on persuasion by the judge they withdraw later. But the play provided genial laughter to the audience. — OC
